    Derek O'Mahony, a 29-year-old man from Midleton, Co Cork, made false reports of sexual assault against a serving garda and sent 13 Facebook messages to the officer between October 2020 and April 2022. He was arrested boarding a plane at Cork Airport on 8 August 2022 while living outside the jurisdiction. O'Mahony pleaded guilty to harassment of the garda at Cork Circuit Criminal Court. Judge Helen Boyle sentenced him on 23 November 2022 to two years' imprisonment with the last six months suspended, plus a 10-year order to stay away from and not communicate with the garda.
