  Derek McAllister, a 50-year-old man from Ennis, County Clare, drove his car to outside his home on April 18th after gardaí smelled an intoxicant on him, and gardaí had to chase the car. He refused to provide a sample for suspected drink driving at Ennis Garda Station. At Ennis District Court, reported on 26 October 2025, he pleaded guilty, and Judge Alec Gabbett imposed a mandatory six-year driving ban because it was his second conviction for refusing a sample, postponing the ban to 13 November to let him arrange his affairs.
