In September 2015, gardaí became aware of activity on a Twitter account and located an IP address, leading to a search warrant at the home of Derek Malone, 59, of Clifden Drive, Ballyfermot, Dublin. A black mobile phone was seized containing eight images and three videos of naked prepubescent girls. Malone, a man with no previous convictions, pleaded guilty on 27 January 2016 to possession of images and videos of child pornography. He was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment, suspended in its entirety, on condition he engage with the Probation Service regarding his alcohol abuse.
