  On January 17, 2026, Derek Farrell of Bawn, Moydow, was arrested after gardaí on patrol in the Keel, Moydow area were alerted by an ANPR system that his vehicle had no insurance. He was taken to Longford Garda Station, where he admitted to gardaí that he was disqualified, and he later pleaded guilty in Longford District Court to driving while disqualified and without insurance. The judge directed a community service assessment report and ordered him to complete the Pro Social driving course, and the case was adjourned until June 23. If deemed suitable, Farrell would receive 200 hours of community service in place of four months' imprisonment.

  On 19 August 2025, a 37-year-old Romanian man, Ionut Christian Bariz, approached 63-year-old bus driver Derek Farrell from behind on Beresford Place, Dublin 1, and punched him in the back of the head, causing him to fall to the ground. The assault was witnessed by Gardaí who were on patrol in the area. Bariz was charged with assault causing harm and production of a metal implement. On 20 August 2025, Judge John Brennan refused bail and remanded Bariz in custody. Bariz, who has been in Ireland for three months, has accrued 11 criminal charges and one bench warrant but no previous convictions.
