  Derek Dunne, a 24-year-old man from Dublin, was sentenced at Letterkenny District Court for stealing a bus ticket machine valued at €1,000 from a bus at Bus Éireann's Letterkenny station and for damaging a white Berlingo van belonging to Bus Éireann employee Kieran McShea. CCTV footage showed Dunne entering a bus between 2:55am and 3:05am on June 23, 2023, and he was later arrested and made full admissions. He appeared by videolink from Cloverhill Prison, where he is serving a separate sentence, and the court was told he has 63 previous convictions. Judge Emile Daly sentenced him to three months in prison for the theft and two months for the criminal damage, to run concurrently.

  A Bus Éireann coach was stolen from Letterkenny Bus Station on Ramelton Road, Donegal, around 12.45am on 10 July 2023 and driven along the M1 to Sheriff Street, Dublin, where it was abandoned. Derek Dunne, a 24-year-old man from Markievicz House, Dublin, was arrested and interviewed in September 2023 and made full admissions. He entered a guilty plea at Letterkenny Circuit Court in February 2025 to unlawfully taking and using a mechanically propelled vehicle without the owner's consent. In November 2025, the judge reduced the sentence from two years to 18 months and suspended it in its entirety.
