latest first- Convicted murderer sentenced to one year for pub assault in Finglas Assault with intent to cause bodily harm · Co. Dublin
Derek Boyd, a 33-year-old man from Finglas, Dublin, was sentenced to one year in prison in October 2026 for punching a man outside the Abbey Tavern in Finglas in April 2024. The victim, a man who was knocked to the ground and bled from the nose, declined to co-operate with the garda investigation. Boyd was arrested after a detective viewed CCTV footage of the altercation and pleaded guilty to assault with intent to commit bodily harm. Judge Martin Nolan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court described the sentence as suitable, noting it would not affect Boyd unduly given he is serving a life sentence for the murder of Mark Carroll and has a prior manslaughter conviction for the death of his sister.

Derek Boyd, 29, a convicted killer, and a second male from Cabra were injured in the alleged wheelbrace attack, with a wheel brace taken from a vehicle suspected of being used. Both men were taken to the Mater Hospital, where Boyd was reported to have suffered non-life threatening injuries and the second man serious head injuries.
