Denise Wilson, a woman of Bught Road, Ramelton, Co Donegal, aged 37 according to DonegalLive and 36 according to the Irish Mirror, was convicted of theft at Letterkenny District Court in May 2023 and given a two-month suspended sentence on condition she repay the money. The theft involved cash taken from a family whose children she babysat, and the total was €2,720, reported elsewhere as almost €3,000. Wilson was later charged with five counts of theft and with breaching the court order by giving gardaí a medical certificate that had been altered to delay a court date. Detective Sergeant Frank McDaid arrested her on a bench warrant, and in early December 2024 Judge Éiteáin Cunningham ordered proposals on the unpaid compensation within two weeks. By 17 December 2024 the compensation had been paid in full, and the judge declined to invoke the suspended sentence and granted bail on her own bond of €200, nil cash.
