  Department of Agriculture veterinary inspectors found about 30 dead and decomposed cattle and calves hidden under plastic on the 170-acre farm of Denis O'Regan, a 49-year-old man from Dromaculling, Coachford, Co Cork, after visits in May 2024, with a further 26 animals missing. A second veterinary inspection followed on 3 July 2024, and when inspectors returned in January 2025 they found he had not fully complied with their instructions to reduce his herd to 170 animals. O'Regan pleaded guilty to 30 animal cruelty and neglect charges and to cattle tagging offences, and on 14 January 2026 Macroom District Court banned him from keeping animals for 15 years and imposed a three-month suspended prison sentence. The latest development is that the court also ordered fines and costs, with sources giving totals of €3,000 and more than €10,000.
