  Ryan Kerrigan, a 31-year-old man from Shannagh, Laghey, was sentenced to 20 months in prison at Cavan Circuit Court in June 2025 for the defilement of Delaney Leese, a 15-year-old woman. The incident occurred on the night of 23 December 2011, when Kerrigan grabbed the victim by the arm and pulled her towards a toilet where sexual intercourse took place. Kerrigan was first interviewed by gardaí in 2018 and pleaded not guilty to one count of defilement of a child under 17. A jury at Donegal Circuit Court found him guilty by a 10-2 majority after a three-day trial in December 2024. The judge refused to suspend any portion of the sentence, citing the significant age difference and the impact on the victim as aggravating factors.
