Deedar Othman (19), of 56 Oaklands, Carrick-on-Shannon, County Leitrim, was granted bail twice on conditions that included signing on daily at Carrick Garda Station and keeping a night-time curfew, after he was charged with non-fatal strangulation, threatening to kill and possession of a knife arising from an incident in June. During the bail period he failed to sign on 129 times, travelled to Spain and later Kurdistan, and continued contact with the complainant, and gardaí later arrested him at 2am in breach of his curfew. He appeared before Judge Éiteáin Cunningham on October 28th, where the DPP opposed bail and the judge refused it because of the seriousness of the alleged offences. He was remanded in custody to Castlerea Prison, as reported on November 10th.
