Declan Walsh, a 44-year-old man, was arrested at Portlaoise Train Station in Laois on April 8, 2024, for being intoxicated and abusive, a public order offence, after gardaí responded to reports of an intoxicated male. The articles say he had been released from prison that day and also say he handed himself in to gardaí on July 3, and they do not reconcile these dates with the April 8 arrest date. He had 183 previous convictions, 40 of them for public order offences. Judge Andrew Cody at Portlaoise District Court jailed him for 20 days, backdated to July 3, a sentence reported on July 20, 2024.
