Edel Doherty, 48, Kyle Rooney, 26, and Declan Corcoran, 30, were charged in Dublin with breaching publication restrictions under the Children Act 2001 by posting photos or naming the teenage boys convicted of murdering Ana Kriegel in 2018. In October 2020 a District Court judge accepted jurisdiction, but on 2 December 2020 Judge John Hughes ruled the offences were too serious for the District Court and should be heard in the Circuit Court. The three brought a successful judicial review in the High Court in July 2022, which sent the matter back for reconsideration. In November 2023 the Court of Appeal overturned the High Court ruling, upholding the District Court judge's decision that the cases should be heard in the Circuit Court.
