Dearbhla Gilhooley (32), of Athlumney Castle, Navan, Co Meath, a former probationer garda, was called to the scene of an alleged assault involving two neighbours. Between March 6 and April 10, 2022, she made a statement falsely claiming that the complainant had withdrawn the assault complaint, and the case later became statute barred. She pleaded guilty to falsifying a witness statement through her solicitor, and at Trim District Court in March 2024 the judge struck out the charge and ordered her to donate €1,000 to the Meath Women's Refuge.
