Dean Shortt, a 29-year-old man with 36 previous convictions, was found driving with no insurance and no licence on Monread Road, Naas, on 27 July 2019. He was prosecuted at Naas District Court, where his defence noted he was collecting medication for his seriously ill mother and that he lived in homeless accommodation with a post-traumatic stress disorder diagnosis. In October 2021, Judge Desmond Zaidan sentenced him to five months for driving without insurance and three months for driving without a licence, and disqualified him from driving for six years.
