Three men, Dean Maguire (29), Karl Freeman (26) and Graham Taylor (31), died when their BMW burst into flames after a head-on crash with a truck on the N7 between Citywest and Baldonnel, Dublin, at around 11.40pm on 7 July 2021, while driving on the wrong side of the road fleeing gardaí. The three men were members of a Tallaght-based burglary gang with over 200 combined convictions, and the truck driver, a man in his 40s, was taken to Tallaght University Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission investigated the crash and submitted a file to the DPP, which directed charges against Garda John Francis Ryan of Tallaght station for one count of endangerment of life and three counts of dangerous driving. Ryan was first summonsed to Dublin District Court in June 2023, and after several adjournments, Judge Michele Finan granted a return for trial order on 26 June 2024, sending the case to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court where it is listed for 18 July.

Gardaí are investigating an incident of dangerous driving on the Old Naas Road and Crumlin areas of Dublin on 14 July 2021, involving a hearse carrying the remains of Dean Maguire, one of three men killed in a head-on collision on the N7 the previous week. The hearse was reportedly driven by a friend of the deceased rather than a funeral home employee.
