Dean Hurley, a 51-year-old man, was sentenced on 13 December 2021 to three and a half years in prison for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl at the home he shared with her mother in County Wicklow in October 2013. A jury at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court convicted him following a three-day trial in October 2021 after he pleaded not guilty. The final six months of the sentence were suspended on conditions including engagement with a sexual offender treatment programme. Hurley, who was living in hostel accommodation in Waterford city, has not expressed remorse and does not accept the verdict.
