Dean Dullaghan, 25, was convicted by a jury in June 2022 of causing serious harm and aggravated burglary after attacking his former best friend with a machete while the 17-year-old victim was asleep in bed at Castleross, Castletown Road, Dundalk, on 23 January 2020. The victim suffered a fractured ulna and significant muscle damage to his right arm and is not expected to regain full hand function. Dullaghan was initially sentenced in February 2023 to six and a half years with two and a half suspended.
