  • Man found not guilty of threatening messages charges in Nenagh Threatening communications and menacing calls; cannabis cultivation and possession · Co. Tipperary

Joseph Ballantine, 48, of Grangelough, Borrisoleigh, Co Tipperary, was charged with five threatening communications offences, two non-fatal offences, and two cannabis cultivation and possession offences following alleged messages to Sinn Féin TD Martin Kenny, TD David Stanton and TD Seamus Healy in October 2019. Gardaí arrested him at his home after executing a search warrant. At the Circuit Court in Nenagh, the search warrant was ruled invalid, so the case could not proceed on the evidence. The trial, expected to last two weeks, ended with Ballantine found not guilty of all charges by direction of the court.
