Frank Roche, 58, of Ballyadeen, Castletownroche, County Cork, was convicted in November 2021 at Fermoy District Court of assaulting his brother David Roche and nephew Colm Roche, 21, and of using threatening, abusive or insulting language in a public place. The incident occurred on 18 January 2020 on a road near the family farm at Ballyadeen, following a long-running dispute over the inheritance of their father's farm. Frank Roche denied the charges, claiming he stopped to pick up an orange spanner and that David drove at him at high speed. A 40-second video filmed by Colm Roche was played in court showing the confrontation. In February 2022, Judge Alec Gabbett imposed a four-month prison sentence suspended for 20 months.
