  On 5 June 2023 at about 4.29pm, a black Kia Rio caught fire on the M9 northbound at Mullinavat, Co Kilkenny, about half an hour after it had been bought. Gardaí who attended found the driver, David Quigley, was not insured and that the car was exhibiting a void disc, and he admitted having no insurance. Kilkenny District Court convicted him of driving without insurance and disqualified him from driving for four years, with fines of €101 for not displaying L plates and €200 for the void disc. The car was seized, and recognisances were fixed in the event of an appeal.
