  • Eight remanded on bail over Ballyogan protest public order offences Public order offences · Co. Dublin

Nine people, five men and four women aged 20 to 60, were arrested on 22 May 2024 after a protest outside Ballyogan Temporary Rest Centre in Carrickmines, south Dublin, during which an elderly woman working at the centre was barricaded in. All nine appeared at Dún Laoghaire District Court on 23 May charged with public order offences under the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994, and Sean Rush, 33, also faces a charge of possessing a Stanley knife. Judge Anne Watkin remanded eight of the accused on bail with conditions including staying away from the centre and signing on daily at their local Garda station. Sean Rush's bail application was adjourned to the following Wednesday at Cloverhill Courthouse, and the judge refused jurisdiction over his knife possession charge, sending it to a higher court.
