Between January 1 and April 30, 2022, David Gallagher (32) stole customer deposits at Joe Duffy Motors on Donore Road, Drogheda, where he worked, with eight deposits totalling €37,050 not lodged. He was suspended in April 2022 and told his employer he would repay the money, and although €5,000 was repaid, he had not repaid the rest by the May 9 deadline. He was sent forward from Drogheda District Court for trial on signed guilty pleas to eight counts of theft. He was then sentenced at Dundalk Circuit Court, where Judge Dara Hayes jailed him for 12 months, as reported on 15 November 2024.
