latest first- Assault and robbery in Dublin city centre under investigation Assault; robbery · Co. Dublin
David Browne, a 21-year-old man from Kildare, was attacked by a gang of young men in Dublin city centre at about 4am on 22 January 2023, when they threatened to stab him unless he gave the passcode to his iPhone 13 and then kicked him repeatedly in the face while he was on the ground. He was diagnosed with two fractures to the jaw, underwent surgery to have pins inserted, and faces six to eight weeks on a liquid diet. His two friends, also gay men, fled the scene without being robbed or injured, and the iPhone, worth about €900, was later found wiped under his iCloud login. Browne ran to Pearse Street Garda station after the attack, and Gardaí confirmed a report of robbery was received. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
