David Beniamin Vornicu, a 29-year-old man, was arrested in Naas, Co Kildare, on 19 August 2021 by An Garda Síochána following an SIS Alert from authorities in Brescia, northern Italy. The European arrest warrant, issued in late June 2021, seeks his surrender to answer charges of sexual offences against adults, arising from a criminal investigation into the trafficking of women from Romania into Italy where they were used as prostitutes. He was brought before Mr Justice Anthony Barr at the High Court, where the judge remanded him in custody. A bail application is expected when the matter returns before the courts later in August 2021.
