Daryl Smith (22) broke a window, poured petrol inside and set fire to a home linked to a rival gang member in Dublin, which was unoccupied at the time. Two days later he recklessly fired a handgun at an address in Clondalkin, and the garda agreed the shooting was intended to intimidate. Smith was arrested, interviewed seven times and later pleaded guilty to arson, possession of a firearm and reckless discharge of a firearm. On 12 December 2025 he was sentenced at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to seven years and three months, with credit for time in custody, after Judge Nolan set a headline sentence of 12 years before mitigation.
