Darren Winters, a 27-year-old man from Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, was involved in a dangerous driving incident in Ardee, Co Louth, on 13 April 2024. Gardaí on mobile patrol said he performed a U-turn in front of them, accelerated when told to stop, and drove erratically through several locations in Ardee. He was already serving a cumulative sentence of seven years and one month for other dangerous driving offences from Dundalk and Monaghan Circuit Courts. He was sentenced at Dundalk District Court for the Ardee incident, a case reported on 12 February 2026, and received a six-month sentence on one dangerous driving charge, a four-year driving disqualification and a €1,000 fine for driving without insurance.

Darren Winters, a 27-year-old man with an address in Carrickmacross, is alleged to have rammed the passenger side of a garda patrol car in Ardee, Louth, on 26 February 2023. He then crossed the border, where he left a female passenger in a south Armagh village she did not know. On 15 April 2024 he crashed in Annagassan after giving a young woman a lift from Dundalk, and she was seriously injured. He was arrested on St Patrick's Day after being spotted in the Carrickmacross area, pleaded guilty at Dundalk Circuit Court to criminal damage and endangerment, and on 26 November 2025 was jailed for a total of five years and seven months and disqualified from driving for 14 years.
