  On 9 November 2020 Darren Keogh, 46, of Valley View, O'Malley Park, Limerick, presented himself back to Limerick Prison after temporary release, and a concealed package was found on him during a search. He had allegedly tried to smuggle drugs into the prison inside his body, and he became unresponsive afterwards and was taken to University Hospital Limerick, where an X-ray showed a second package. Keogh was later arrested at John Carew Park and, as reported in June 2026, pleaded guilty at Limerick Circuit Court to five counts of supplying controlled drugs to a prison under section 83 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006. The judge adjourned sentencing until Keogh completes the Leaving Certificate, which is the latest development reported.
