Darren Bennis, a 29-year-old German man, was sentenced to two months in jail on 15 May 2025 after pleading guilty to assault causing harm, a less serious category assault, and a breach of the peace arising from a ticket dispute at Connolly Station, Dublin, on 31 October 2023. Bennis, a former social media content reviewer for Twitter, Google and YouTube, punched a ticket inspector in the chest after being refused permission to travel on an invalid ticket, and a security guard sustained minor cuts to his face while attempting to restrain him. Gardaí handcuffed Bennis at the scene and he was taken to Store Street Garda Station where he made admissions and apologised. Before Judge Gerard Jones at Dublin District Court, the judge noted Bennis's 16 prior convictions and that he had been released from custody about a month earlier in a previous case, and imposed the two-month sentence.
