Darragh O'Brien, 22, was charged with the murder of Anthony Herron, an English man in his 40s from London, after allegedly kicking him in the head following a verbal altercation in Temple Bar Square, Dublin, just after midnight on 21 August 2025. Herron was taken to Beaumont Hospital and later transferred to King's College Hospital in the UK, where he died on 25 October 2025. O'Brien was initially charged with assault causing harm in August 2025 and granted conditional bail. On 27 February 2026, the DPP withdrew the assault charge at Dublin District Court and directed a single count of murder to proceed on indictment to the Central Criminal Court, and O'Brien was remanded in custody.
