Danny Brosnan, a father of five from Ballingarry, was struck by a car while walking at night 100 yards from his home in Co Limerick on 3 September 2018. The driver, Sarah Lynch, came forward five days later, telling gardaí she was returning home to Ballingarry village after attending an event at Martinstown Stud. The incident was an apparent hit-and-run, and a local campaign was launched to get the driver to come forward. Bridget Brosnan sued Sarah Lynch in the High Court over her husband's death and resulting nervous shock. The case was settled in July 2022 without an admission of liability, with an offer of €25,000 recommended given difficulties with liability.
