• Man convicted of murdering woman in Goa Murder

Danielle McLaughlin, a 28-year-old woman from Buncrana, Co. Donegal, was hit with a bottle, raped, and strangled to death in a secluded spot in Canacona, Goa, in March 2017 while on holiday. Vikat Bhagat, a man in his 30s, was arrested within hours of her body being discovered and has been in custody since 2017. The trial in India faced numerous delays over six years, with the High Court setting a deadline of July 2024, and Bhagat was granted bail in February 2024 to attend a wedding. He was convicted in February 2025 and is due to be sentenced, with the prosecution requesting the death penalty.
