Daniel Nevin, a 39-year-old medical doctor from Mullingar, Co Westmeath, pleaded guilty in March 2025 to stealing prescription pads from University Hospital Galway and Midlands Regional General Hospital Mullingar between 2021 and 2024, and to forging and using false prescriptions in pharmacies in Kells, Kilbeggan and Tullamore. His 35-year-old partner, Rebecca Moylan, a qualified nurse, admitted stealing prescriptions from St James's Hospital Dublin in late 2023 and using false prescriptions in three pharmacies. The offending was exposed when a Mullingar pharmacist became suspicious in May 2024, and Gardaí obtained a search warrant for the couple's home. In July 2025, Judge Keenan Johnson at Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court spared both a custodial sentence and a criminal record under the Probation of Offenders Act, conditional on Nevin donating €15,000 and Moylan donating €5,000 to the Merchant Quay drug treatment project.
