Daniel McNamara, a 42-year-old man from Windmill Street, Limerick city, was arrested after his van crashed into a bollard at a petrol station on Bruff's Main Street on 16 December 2020. His urine test showed 198 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres, almost three times the legal limit. McNamara told Kilmallock Court he was a recovering alcoholic who had not drunk in the days before the accident and that he consumed a shoulder of vodka and cider only after the collision. The judge acquitted him of drink-driving in January 2022.

A cement mixer was stolen from a site in Tipperary in December 2020. Daniel McNamara, 42, of Windmill Street, Limerick city, was arrested for an alleged driving offence at Ballycampion, Bruff on 16 December 2020, and the stolen cement mixer was found in his van.
