Daniel Martin, 47, formerly of Crumlin, Dublin, was unanimously convicted by a jury in December 2023 of 11 counts of serious sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of a girl aged 15 to 16 between 2019 and 2020, and one count of causing a child to watch pornography in relation to a second girl aged 14 to 15. On 29 January 2024, while Martin faced sentencing at the Central Criminal Court, the father of one of the complainants, who cannot be named to protect his daughter's anonymity, entered the court and struck Martin in the dock, causing him to bleed and require medical attention. The father pleaded guilty to the assault and appeared before Judge Treasa Kelly at Dublin District Court, where he was spared jail, had a conviction recorded, was fined €300 payable within four months, and was bound over to keep the peace for a year. Martin was sentenced on 27 February 2024 to concurrent terms of 13 years with the final year suspended for three years, plus two years for the pornography charge.
