Cases
latest first- Appeal dismissed in Limerick dangerous driving and endangerment case Dangerous driving; endangerment; criminal damage · Co. Limerick
Daniel Kelly, a 35-year-old man from Caherconlish, Co Limerick, was caught speeding on the N21 near Patrickswell on 8 August 2016 and, after ramming a garda patrol car twice, drove at 130 kph in 80 kph zones through narrow country roads and townlands before crashing his white Volkswagen combo van into a field. He was convicted by a jury at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court in October 2020 of three counts of dangerous driving, one count of endangerment, and one count of criminal damage, and was sentenced to two years in prison with a six-year driving ban. His appeal to the Court of Appeal, arguing the trial was conducted in a rushed manner and the judge failed to reference the lack of forensic examination of the van, was dismissed in February 2022.
