On 22 January 2026, Gardaí stopped and searched a vehicle at North Monastery Road, Cork, seizing €50,000 worth of suspected cannabis, and carried out follow-up warrant searches at multiple locations in Cork city, seizing a further €610,000 worth of suspected cannabis. Daniel Collins, 25, and Derek Kavanagh, 31, were arrested and charged with possession of cannabis for sale or supply. Both men appeared before a special sitting of Mallow District Court on 24 January 2026, where Collins made no reply to four charges and was granted bail on conditions, while Kavanagh made no reply to his charges and was remanded in custody. The seized drugs are to be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis, and investigations are ongoing.
