    Dan McCarthy, 42, a builder and musician, suffered serious facial injuries after being attacked by two men on Church Lane, Killarney, on 22 October 2018, after the pair had been drinking following a match. Ronan Buckley, 23, a man and Kerry senior inter-county footballer, and Christopher O'Donoghue, 22, a man and former Kerry minor, were charged with assault causing harm. In June 2021, they received convictions and €400 fines at Killarney District Court. Judge O'Sullivan then applied the Probation Act, leaving the men without a conviction. In December 2021, the Circuit Court overturned the convictions on appeal.
