Dan Horan, a 32-year-old man from Slievecorragh, Hollywood, County Wicklow, sexually assaulted a sleeping 26-year-old man at a house party in Naas in July 2020 after giving him cannabis. Horan initially denied the attack, claiming he believed the complainant had consented, but pleaded guilty at Naas Circuit Criminal Court in July 2023, where Judge Mary O'Malley Costello sentenced him to four and a half years with the final 18 months suspended. On 29 February 2024, the Court of Appeal quashed the original sentence and re-sentenced him to three years with 18 months suspended, effectively halving his jail time.
