  Jason Downes, 31, of Kilmihil, Co Clare, was sentenced on 12 March 2025 to a 22-month prison term with the final 14 months suspended for harassing Garda David (Daithi) King by persistently communicating with him via a fake Facebook account named Tommy Teirnan between 6 and 16 June 2020. The messages and posts, which included photos of Garda King on duty and at his wedding, were sent to the garda and his wife Ciara Bohan, who said she was left nervous and scared. Downes was tried at Ennis Circuit Court in October and November 2024, where he denied the charge, and a jury returned a majority 10-2 guilty verdict on 5 November 2024. Judge Francis Comerford imposed the sentence, noting that Downes had lied to gardaí and relied on those lies before the jury.
