Cyril Calpin, 61, of Boyle, Co Roscommon, was arrested while highly intoxicated and allegedly defecated in a Garda cell, resisted arrest, and assaulted Sergeant McGarry and another garda. He was charged with threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour, two counts of intoxication, criminal damage, assault, and assault or threatening to assault. He appeared before the District Court on 26 January 2026, where a probation report found him suitable for community service subject to a GP letter.
