    On 1 December 2022, Philip Cox, aged 39 or 40, originally from Tallaght Dublin, allegedly attacked his ex-partner of 18 years, Cristal O'Brien, at their flat at York Street Flats, Dublin 2, after an argument, chasing her with three knives and stabbing her twice in the left thigh. Cox was charged with attempted murder in May 2023 and pleaded not guilty, while pleading guilty to assault causing harm, aggravated burglary, and production of a knife. Two juries at the Central Criminal Court, in March 2024 and December 2024, both failed to reach a verdict on the attempted murder charge. The State dropped the attempted murder charge in December 2024, and Cox was remanded in custody on 20 January 2025 ahead of a sentencing hearing on the remaining charges.
