  Craig O'Connell, a 26-year-old man from Hollyhill, Cork, pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to raping a 16-year-old girl at a hotel on 5 January 2024 after coercing her with a fake €12,000 drug debt, and to making demands with menace against her 18-year-old former boyfriend. He was arrested on 14 March 2024 and sentenced on 30 April 2026 by Justice David Keane to 11 years for the rape, with the final two years suspended on conditions, and a concurrent six-year term for making demands with menace. O'Connell, who has 62 previous convictions, was ordered to attend for assessment for sex offender treatment work and to be under post-release supervision for two years.
