Two men, Catalin Jimi Munteanu, 43, and Cosmin Mihai, 23, are accused of entering a woman's home on Bachelors Walk, Dundalk, shortly before 10.30pm on 15 May 2022, where Munteanu held a knife and Mihai hit her over the head with a baton before stealing cash, jewellery and phones. The following day they assaulted a man in his 60s at a home in Enfield, Meath, where his dog was also injured and later euthanised. Both were arrested in May 2022, charged with aggravated burglary and assault, and their cases were sent to the Circuit Court in August 2022. In January 2024, Judge Dara Hayes at Dundalk Circuit Court sentenced Munteanu to 15 years and Mihai to 12 and a half years, with the final 12 months suspended, with sentences backdated to their custody in May 2022.
