On 17 December 2024, Gardaí intercepted a vehicle on Rowlagh Avenue in Clondalkin, Dublin 22, and seized a semi-automatic Glock pistol, 9mm ammunition, masks, a petrol can and cocaine, preventing what they described as an imminent threat to life attack. Two men, aged in their 30s and 40s, were arrested at the scene under Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006. The target of the foiled plot was an associate of Cormac Berkeley, 37, a man shot dead in Clondalkin in December 2022, who had previously survived a hit in 2021. Gardaí are investigating whether Charles McClean, a man aged 35, serving 20 years for three gangland crimes, ordered the hit from his cell at Portlaoise Prison. Both men have been charged and are due to appear before Blanchardstown District Court on 20 December 2024.

Cormac Berkeley, 34, was shot up to eight times by a lone gunman while sitting in his car in the driveway of his home at Harelawn Park, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, on 5 December 2022. He was treated at the scene but pronounced dead, and gardaí believe the killing was a targeted gangland shooting linked to a drug debt owed to a Ballyfermot-based gang. A man in his 30s was arrested on 16 September 2024 and detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act. He was released without charge on 18 September 2024, and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
