Austin Doherty, a man aged 37, was left with life-changing injuries after three men chased and repeatedly punched, kicked and stamped on him outside a casino on Old Navan Road, Dublin 7, in the early hours of 31 July 2022. Conti Birali, a man aged 28, Craig Maples, a man aged 28, and Graham Dunphy, a man aged 31, were all charged in connection with the attack. Birali was sentenced to nine years and Maples to seven years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in March 2024, and Birali withdrew his appeal at the Court of Appeal in October 2024. Dunphy, the last of the three to be dealt with, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in May 2026.
