Between May and October 2022, Tibor Pohl (52), a Czechoslovakian native, was involved in several incidents in Kilbeggan and Tullamore, Westmeath. On 25 June 2022 he was arrested after allegedly trying to break a Garda sign from the wall at Kilbeggan Garda Station, and on 27 October 2022 he allegedly spat several times at Garda Conor Wynne while in a patrol car. He was charged with criminal damage, assault, handling stolen property, possession of a knife and intoxication in a public place. He failed to appear in court on 8 February 2023 and had been in custody in Castlerea prison since 13 February 2023. In early March 2023, Judge Andrew Cody at Tullamore Circuit Court gave him three months in prison suspended for three years for criminal damage and a consecutive three-month suspended sentence for assault, with six months' imprisonment if he commits any further offence.
