On 12 April 2025, Conor Manning, 30, and Jackie McElhaton, 50, robbed a man of his phone and wallet on Hatch Street, Dublin 2, after first asking him for money for a hostel. During the hour-long encounter, Manning threw the victim headfirst into Luas tracks and attempted to strangle him, while McElhaton struck him on the back of the head with a glass bottle. The pair were identified by gardaí from CCTV footage and pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Judge Nolan sentenced Manning to seven and a half years and McElhaton to eight and a half years, the latter including a consecutive one-year term for a separate November 2024 robbery.
