  Former garda Shane Flanagan, 41, a man, supplied PULSE identification data on 14 female motorists in Co Clare to his friend Colm Meere, 45, a man, between January and September 2020 so Meere could view the women's Facebook profile photos. The offences came to light during a separate Garda investigation into Flanagan inciting strangers to rape a female colleague. Flanagan pleaded guilty to six of 14 counts at Ennis Circuit Court, while Meere pleaded guilty to inciting the disclosure and to a drug trafficking offence. On 16 September 2026, Judge Francis Comerford sentenced Flanagan to nine months, consecutive to his seven-year term from July 2025, and Meere to a 14-month suspended prison term for the PULSE data offence.

  Shane Flanagan, a 39-year-old Irish man from Ennis, Co Clare, is charged with 14 counts of unauthorised disclosure of personal data from the Garda PULSE system to Colm Meere, a 43-year-old Irish man from Knockanean, Ennis, between 12 January and 24 September 2020. Meere faces charges of inciting the disclosure and a separate drug-trafficking offence. Both men first appeared at Ennis District Court in June 2024, were remanded on bail, and the case was sent forward for trial to Ennis Circuit Court in September 2024. The trial was adjourned to 2025 in October 2024. On 21 October 2025, Flanagan indicated his intention to plead guilty, meaning the trial will not proceed, and his arraignment was adjourned to Thursday.
