  A Rottweiler dog bit a woman's face at Downeys Bar on Main Street, Clonaslee, Co Laois, at about 2am; sources give the date as 22 July 2022 or 30 July 2022. Colm Downey, 37, of Downeys Bar, was charged with not having the dog on a leash, not controlling it and not having it muzzled, and he admitted having an uncontrolled unmuzzled dog. At Portlaoise District Court in September 2023 the judge asked for a victim impact statement and remanded the case to 19 October 2023, with a personal injuries claim already lodged. At Portlaoise District Court in October 2023, Downey was fined €500, given a three-month sentence suspended for two years, and ordered to pay €5,000 to the injured woman.
