On 23 August 2023, about 1,000 fish died in the River Camac near the Saggart waterworks in Dublin after a mechanical failure let pure chlorine discharge from a pipe into the river. Inland Fisheries Ireland prosecuted Coffey Construction Ltd, a building firm, which pleaded guilty in September 2024 to causing deleterious matter to enter the Camac. At Dublin District Court on 4 November 2024, Judge Anthony Halpin applied the Probation of Offenders Act, so no conviction was recorded. The firm was ordered to pay €6,300 toward prosecution costs and to donate €500 to a charity, which is the latest reported development.
